It’s not been smooth running when it comes to the role of Thénardier in the new production of Les Misérables at London’s Sondheim Theatre. After doctors telling actor Gerard Carey he must rest his voice until the end of February, Matt Lucas saved the day by reprising the part but has now suffered a back injury. Cue the arrival of Ian Hughes who recently played Thénardier to great acclaim in the current sell-out UK and international tour. Phew!

Can Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables get any more popular? Perhaps it can with the just-announced new cast starring in the musical at the newly reburbished Sondheim Theatre, reopening on 18 December 2019. Just imagine Bradley Jaden as Javert confronting Jon Robyns as Jean Valjean. Are you booking already?

They dreamed a dream of performing in the West End and it has come true for Brit School graduate Shan Ako & the Royal Academy of Music’s Lily Kerhoas as they take on the roles of Eponine and Cosette alongside a star-studded cast in Les Misérables – The Staged Concert, running at London’s Gielgud Theatre from 10 August to 30 November 2019.

Despite five star reviews the UK professional premiere production of legendary composer Michel Legrand’s musical comedy Amour will end its run early, on 8 June 2019, having played 45 performances. There’s only two more weeks to see this “genuinely enchanting” and “utterly gorgeous” production so there’s no time to waste in booking your tickets.

Our #FirstNightTakeover series continues with Perry O’Bree attending the West End opening of AMOUR at the Charing Cross Theatre. Perry was there taking in the intimate atmosphere of Michel Legrand’s musical fantasy and of course fitting in some post-show chats with cast members Anna O’Byrne, Elissa Churchill and Claire Machin. It was a ‘chocolate box of delightful joy’ and Perry seems to have loved every bite!

It’s bitter sweet for producer Danielle Tarento as she brings the late Michel Legrand’s five-time Tony-nominated musical Amour – a musical fantasy about daring to dream and the power of self belief – to the Charing Cross Theatre from 2 May to 20 July 2019. She hopes the production will be ‘a fitting tribute to this extraordinary man’.

We knew the West End production of Les Misérables was moving to the Gielgud Theatre while the Queen’s was being refurbished but we couldn’t have predicted that the venue would be hosting the concert version of the ever-popualr musical and that the cast would feature Michael Ball (Javert), Alfie Boe (Jean Valjean), Carrie Hope Fletcher (Fantine) and Matt Lucas (Thénardier).
